ford ranger dually Q&A Review

Why are dually wheel pickup trucks promoted as heavy duty, when in fact they are medium duty trucks?

Because size/capability is always ,relative,. Compared to their non-dually brethren, a dually truck ,is ,“heavy duty”.’ Should nothing short of a 1.5 million pound Caterpillar 797 be “heavy duty”? Because, honestly, everything else really pales in comparison to it anyways. By the standards of similar ,pickup trucks,, duallies are, indeed, designed/engineered to “heavy duty” standards. Specifically, they are Heavy-Duty Medium-,Size, trucks. Not medium “duty” . It is common amongst a wide variety of consumer products, to have ‘regular’ versions and “heavy duty” versions. It doesn’t make it an entirely different product. It just speaks to that version somehow being more robust than another (and may not even mean that, it’s sometimes pure BS marketing). If I’m Bilstein and I’m selling shocks, I sell “Heavy Duty” shocks for a Ford Ranger. It doesn’t suddenly make the Ranger a “heavy duty” truck, but only speaks to how those shocks are relative to other shocks that you can by. And, to be fair, it doesn’t really ,mean ,anything ,at all,. It’s simply a marketing-term. Dodge doesn’t just ,promote ,their mid-size trucks as “heavy duty” they flat out ,name ,them “Heavy Duty”. That is literally the name of the truck model. And, hell, Ford does them one better and skips right over “Heavy Duty” and calls theirs mid-size duallies “,Super ,Duty”. That’s gotta mean they are ,way ,better than the “Heavy Duty” trucks of the competition. I think they went with “Super” to intimidate the Caterpillar 797 though. I mean, “Super” does sound like it’s nipping at the heels of the “ultra class” haul trucks, right? It’s marketing. Nothing more.

Why do gun owners need semi automatic weapons? Aren’t revolvers or bolt action rifles sufficient?

Why do car owners need a Ferrari? Aren’t Toyota Corolla’s and Honda Civic’s enough? Why do McDonalds customers need an extra large, isn’t small enough? Why do gamers need a 1080 Ti? Isnt a 960 good enough? Why do truck drivers need a dually? Isnt a Ford Ranger enough? Why do alcoholics need whiskey? Isnt beer enough? Why do suburbanites need a Cadillac Escalade? Isn’t a Honda Accord enough? Why do rich people need a mansion? Isn’t a duplex enough? Why do smokers need cigarettes? Isn’t a pipe enough? Why do people in California want a grass lawn? Isn’t dirt good enough? Why do you need a Macbook? Isn’t a Cromebook good enough? Why do you need Charmin Ultra Soft? Isn’t an old newspaper good enough? Why do you need steak? Isn’t chicken good enough? Why do you need organic vegetables? Aren’t GMO’s good enough? Why do you need a calculator? Aren’t your fingers good enough? Why do you need a job? Isn’t welfare enough? You see, it has nothing to do with what you need. There are numerous reasons why you would need a semi-automatic firearm, just like there are numerous reasons to justify needing the things I listed above. The thing is, in the end, it isnt about need. It’s about the right of the people to bear arms SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED!!!

How many cars do you want to own?

If I had let’s say infinite money, these are the cars I would buy: Daily Driver: GMC Terrain - Not super big or super small, so maybe not the best city car, but this is my list so I don’t care :D Off-Roading by myself Ford Ranger Raptor - Come on, it looks great. I really hope they sell this truck in the US Market Off-Roading with one other person Ford F-150 Raptor - The same as the previous truck but bigger and it can tow more Off-Roading with multiple people Jeep Wrangler Rubicon - The most generic off-roader and in my opinion the best looking Dually F-450 Super Duty - I chose this dually specifically because the GM’s cant tow enough and in my opinion everything RAM looks ugly af. If I could get as many cars as I wanted then I would buy a camper with the money I was actually making. Practical Truck Chevrolet Avalanche - That midgate tho In my opinion this is the most versatile truck ever made because you can lock the bed without buying a bed topper, but you can also take the cover off to use like a normal pickup truck. Convertible Buick Cascada - I really like the look of this thing People hauler Chevrolet Suburban - It can haul 9, and it tows surprisingly well

Can a king bed fit in a truck bed?

A king-size mattress is 78 inches wide and 80 inches long. A Ford Ranger SuperCrew is a truck (capable of being licensed for on-road use in Canada). Its bed is 61 inches long, 44.8 inches wide, and 20.8 inches high. No, a king bed will not fit in a truck bed. A Belaz 75710 is a truck (designed for use in open pit mines, final assembly takes place on-site, and when it is no longer economical to repair it is scrapped on-site). While I wasn't able to find dimensions for its bed (capable of hauling 450 tons of rock), based on the pictures the bed is both longer and wider than a set of its "dually" tires (each tire is 59 inches wide, assuming the tire specifications follow the standard format), and at least as deep as the width of one tire. This would mean that the bed has a "footprint" exceeding 10 feet by 10 feet and a depth of roughly 5 feet. Yes, a king bed will fit in a truck bed.

Why are Ford trucks the best?

Who told you they're the best? When Ford came out with their 6.0L diesel, they were plagued with problems. Ever see the Chevy commercial where cinder blocks were dumped into the bed of an F150 to show just how easy it is to punch holes in an aluminum bed? The list goes on and on and with ALL makes and models. Someone, probably family or close friends have had good experiences with Ford products and by word of mouth sang their praises. I own a 2001 Ford Ranger with 150K and has been the most dependable pick up I've ever owned. My 2010 Dodge dually though is my go to vehicle and what I think is the best. It's all about personal preference. Crunch the numbers if statistics float your boat. What a person likes usually has stronger influence than actual necessity.

Why do people buy a small truck such as an F150 or compact then try to pull a trailer with it? Don't you need at least an F250-sized truck to pull a trailer safely?

This all depends on the load and the rating of the vehicle. I have a 1500 Chevy Silverado, which covers all of my towing needs - brush trailers, small boats, and motorcycles. Most of these can be handled by my old truck, an Mazda B2500 (Ford Ranger knock-off), but doesn’t handle crosswinds as well. One of my contractors has a fleet of Chevy 2500 and 3500 duallys. There trucks would pull the same loads better, and could take higher loads - but they aren’t needed for the loads I’m towing.

What is it like towing a loaded trailer with a small pickup truck like a Ford Ranger or Chevy S10?

THATS A VERY DANGEROUS IDEA. Nevermind that you'll likely be severely underpowered. The biggest detriment is braking power or lack of. I've hauled show horses across the country. A loaded 3 horse with living quarters trailer, but hauled with a Chevy crew cab dually. While this truck has great power, it's biggest plus is that hauling is a non event. The suspension is firm, keeping the trailer from moving about, it's stability in crosswinds or passing a semi is excellent and it's Alison transmission aids in acceleration but in braking is where it shines. Your never freewheeling, as it downshifts itself. Everything works in concert to make the hauling experience easy. Not so in a small truck. The transmission will not help you get out of trouble, the suspension will most likely be nose up because of all that weight on the rear. Being narrow , you'll need stabilizer bars to keep the trailer from yo-yoing, your steering and braking will be non effective in certain circumstances. Other drivers don't care your hauling and will cut you off, halving your braking distance and generally make your life hauling with a little truck a death harrowing experience. DONT DO IT. I can't stress that enough. And you have to change your way of driving too

Does the Ford F-150 sell just as well outside the US?

Not really… Germany here. For anybody living in a city, these vehicles are just too big to get around and they are slow ( with slow I am not talking 0–60 but “getting places quickly” -I just drove a Silverado for two weeks - the suspension starts to get scary above 80mph), so they only make sense for hauling and towing. The costs of buying and registering them are not really bad. If you license them as an actual truck, they are taxed by weight (12€ per 200 kg per year - so an F250 would be le...

Why do some of the larger trucks, like the F-250 or F-350, have two extra wheels in the back?

If you look closely, the F-250 won't, but the F-350 will. Notice also that 1500 and 2500 series vehicles by other manufacturers won't but 3500 series will. It has to do with the vehicle class, which is defined by its maximum gross weight (weight with a load). Classes 1 and 2 are defined as light duty, with class 2 being subdivided further. Picking only from the Ford lineup, the Ranger is a class 1, the F-150 is the lighter subdivision of class 2, the F-250 is the heavier subdivision of class 2, and all other F-n50 trucks are class n (not all are in production, and some are "rebadged" versions of trucks produced by a manufacturer of heavy trucks). Classes 3–6 are defined as medium duty, and classes 7–8 as heavy duty (require a commercial driver's license). What does this have to do with the number of tires? Remember what I said about vehicle class being defined by its gross weight? Tires have a limit of how much weight they can carry. With "duallies", you can carry more weight (but not double) than with singles. Truck tires will have 2 weight ratings - one for where they're mounted as singles, the other for where they're mounted as duals. Take a close look at the tires at your local Ford dealership (once "in the wild", different tires might have been fitted). Cars will have Pxxx/yyRzz tires, where "P" indicates it's a tire for passenger cars. The Ranger and F-150 will probably be the same, but might have LTxxx/yyRzz tires ("LT" indicates it's a tire for light trucks, will be able to handle a heavier load than an equivalent car tire, run at a higher pressure, and have a rougher ride). F-250 will probably have LT tires, F-350 definitely will. You didn't specify a limit for "larger trucks", so I'll draw your attention to the Kenworth W900. It's a class 8, has single tires on the front axle, dual tires on both rear axles (most commonly configured with 2 rear axles, rarely with 1, and sometimes with 3). In its most common configuration, it is equipped to pull a trailer, which in turn has (usually) a pair of axles, each with dual wheels. It's weight carrying capacity is set by legal limits - federally in the United States (individual states may allow higher limits on state-controlled roads) a truck is allowed up to 12,000 pounds on an axle with single tires, 34,000 pounds on a tandem pair (two axles up to a defined spacing between them, each axle having dual tires), and 80,000 pounds total. If you've been counting tires in my description, you'll see why a standard semitrailer is an 18 wheeler.

Why do Americans buy trucks?

There are so many reasons, however, it’s not quite the same everywhere. Driving a truck in Houston is not the same as driving a truck in Boston. I think the decision to own a truck is heavily dependant on where someone lives. Because we can, In large areas of the USA roads and parking lots are designed to accommodate large vehicles. Heavy trucking(semi’s, tractor trailers) is the dominant way of transporting goods around the USA, so highways are laid out to fit those trucks. City planners will design roads that large firetrucks can easily navigate. So, it’s pretty simple to drive a large truck in most of the USA. The truth in the USA is they are not more expensive than most other classes of vehicles in the USA to buy, maintain, and drive. There are more economical choices than a truck. My point is, trucks are very comparable in the USA. Search “kelly blue book cost of ownership” or other sources if you don’t trust me. A Honda Accord, Toyota Camry, Toyota Tacoma, and Ford Ranger are about the same cost over 5 years. Full-size pickup trucks are more equivalent to, entry-level luxury cars, and full-size cars; the Ford Fusion and Acura TLX. Part of this is import tariffs; there is a 25% import tax on pickup trucks in the USA(aka, the chicken tax). This gives domestic manufacturers an incentive to sell trucks and they push those heavily, this helps keep demand high. Also, trucks have high resale compared to cars, the high demand for trucks is what fuels this, but it’s the reality. The utility of a truck is great and many people like being useful or at least trying to be useful(even when they are not). Trucks can; pull heavy things(dudes love pulling heavy things, it makes you feel important), run over small things(mostly sticks and rocks, again feeling important), carry a pretty huge amount of stuff(we love having too much stuff and having some way to move it all around). There are lots of people who actually use trucks for farming and/or work, but most people do have them because they like them. I am probably someone in the “like them” category. I use mine to haul things, a lot, but do I need it?? Probably not, I could do 90% of what I need with a car and a small trailer but it’s just easier to have a truck. The feedback loop of seeing more trucks on the road. The more people who buy trucks the more people buy trucks. It’s a feedback loop, I firmly believe that trucks spread like a disease, for better and worse. The image/status thing; this is the most controversial part of truck ownership. It’s definitely not unique to trucks but it’s part of why people buy them. When we see what someone drives we immediately feel like we know a little more about them, and it helps decide if we should like or hate them. I drive a really janky Toyota T100, if I see someone else in an old beater truck I feel we have something in common. I think that’s a pretty common feeling. Someone driving a lifted dually F-350 rolling coal, it’s douche and I should immediately hate(and envy) them.
