Why are sports cars manuals?

Sadly, for us manual transmission enthusiasts time has come that the numbers of manual transmission vehicles are being sold at an all time low, because of this car buyers are going towards automatic transmissions, which regular commuters feel easy, but enthusiasts are fighting to keep the manual transmission alive, who wants a car which is not safe, the automatics are not safe because they change the gear themselves, if a person steps on the accelerator unintentionally and with much presure, chances are he and his car would end up in a crash. This is not the case with the manual transmission where the driver has the complete control, even if the accelerator is stepped on unintentionally, the car wouldn't enter dangerous speeds unless the gear is changed. Overall Manual cars are Fun and here is the list of some of the manufacturers who still give power to their customers to choose between the lame transmission and Manual transmission. Aston Martin Vantage - Yes, its true Aston had released a variant which comes with a 7 speed manual. Corvette C8 - Production Ceased, but i guess one can find any stock in showrooms. Jaguar F-Type - Don't get your hopes high, only the V6 variant comes with a manual. Toyota GT86/Subaru BRZ - Same cars with a different badge. Camaro ZL1 - Yes, the Meaty muscle gets a manual with 6 speed. Mustang - Everybody knows this, the pony gets a 6 speed. Lotus Exige - Hard to find, may go off shelves at any time Porsche 718 Cayman/Cayman GT4/Boxter - all of these will get a manual. Mazda Mx5 Dodge challenger/hellcat - Yes, these beasts with a horsepower that cars have rarely seen have a manual, sadly though demon doesn't get a manual, and Hellcat has 707HP with a manual, how cool is that. 707 Horses in my hand. Audi TT - Rs variant doesn't get a manual, but a normal one with 2.0 litre TFSI gets it. There are some others which have a manual transmission, but these are the ones i found interesting. #savemanuals

Is buying a DC Avanti (car) a wise choice?

In 2016, I was also going to buy the DC Avanti. It is without a doubt a real head turner and grabbed a lot of attention whenever I was driving it on the roads.I was followed by SUVs in Gurgaon when I was driving the car, and there were a lot of car enthusiasts taking pictures of the car. This car has the potential to give you instant celebrity status. The first day when I parked it at my office, there were around a hundred people who took photos. It has good suspensions allowing me to drive smoothly over speed bumps and broken roads. Everything seemed perfect, and I was about to sign the cheque until I noticed few things: 1. It is not the kind of car you can drive on a daily basis; you can buy it if you already own a German car and need an extra car in the garage for the weekends. I needed something I can drive daily. (Not DC’s Fault) 2. Absence of Air Bags: A Big No for me! Although, Sales Executive explained to me that Air Bags are an only passive safety feature and the car has active safety features in comparison to the rally cars out there. I was not sure what will happen if I crash my car from the front. 3. 50,000 Km or 1 Year Warranty - Deal-Breaker 4. Tyre Changes after every 10,000 Kms. - Okay for me, but still in my calculations I needed to spend ₹ 2 Lakh every three months. 5. Poor resale value - I saw few 1000 Kms driven cars listed for ₹25 Lakh on Big Boy Toyz. 6. Poor Interior Design - I was disappointed by the interior looks. Even a ₹10 Lakh Verna has better interiors than DC Avanti. DC needs to work on the interiors of Avanti to match it to their German competitors. 7. Handling & Driving - It was not smooth as you will expect if you already own a BMW or an Audi. 8. Limited Storage Options: Although the Engine sits in the back, there is insufficient storage, and IMHO, DC could have worked for some space to carry at least one Bag. Plus as Harshit said, Lot of Old School Engineering. Finally, I based on all the reasons I decided to say no and purchased a German alternative car instead. In my opinion, DC Avanti is probably a nice choice. But the company needs to add more features to make it more lucrative for their customers. Edits: Cost - Rs. 52 Lakh (Inc. What is your opinion of Porsche cars?

I have owned 8 Porsches, I love them all, depend on them, and have complete trust in a true drivers car. Love they still make a manual transmission, and the spirited driving that puts a smile on your face. Also like the fact Porsches are on the smaller size, everything keeps on getting bigger, however the immediate intimacy of sport car is part of the charm. I like Ferraris, and owned a F512TR, a second generation TestaRossa, which has a great 12 cylinder flat 12. However the cost of it and 2 year maintenance cycle scared me. $7500 on the Ferrari. I did not have to pay it since it was a condition of the sale. My point is you consider a Ferrari when cost is not a consideration, Porsche is a far cheaper option and yearly maintenance is a couple hundred dollars. Porsches are such well built and form follow function ability that few other sport cars can match. They can handle track duties without breaking a sweat, remember Nissan 350 that crashed at VIR, because Nissan said their cars were not made for the track. I do not track my cars often, but the excess in performance is great to have and appreciated. I never had to shell out money on any of my cars, my Porsche 928 needed a new alternator. It was a preowned car and I believe it was bad before I purchased the car, but Porsche stepperd in and covered the cost. $1000 part and 500 in labor. 0 cost to me. This was a number of years ago and I always wondered why it was a $1000 part and why there was no rebuilds. The beast of a part for a 928, includes a passage for water coolant, never seen an alternator cooled with coolant before. Later I met a person who owned a alternator and generator rebuild shop, they tried several times to rebuild the part but the windings or something else was very specialized and they never had a good result. My current car is a 2016 Porsche Boxster GTS, I like that Boxster out performs a 911, and the fact of open top motoring. Of course a 911 S, 911 4S, and 911 turbo is faster. However go to a Porsche dealer, the average 911 on the lot is 120–150,000 dollars. A Boxster or a Cayman can still be bought for 50–70,000 dollars. All the Porsche magic is there, plus the advantage of mid-engine is a great advantage. 911 rear engine is well thought out, and extremely fun. The 911 has greater horsepower than a Boxster, however the Boxster is lighter by nearly 500 pounds. 2016 is the last year for flat 6, now all Porsche are flat 4 with a turbo. 911 are flat 6 with turbo, but only the king of the hill 911 Turbo well be know as a turbo. Confusing, YES. The Boxster Spyder from I understand will have a flat 6 from the 911. There is nothing like a normally aspirated sound of a flat 6 when it is angry. Great sound, especially with the sport exhaust. The critics of the new 718, which is the old Boxster renamed. Is the turbo flat 4 sounds a bit like a Subaru WRX. Which also uses a flat 4. My criterial in a sport car is it must be fun, quality and reliability is also very important. It does not have to be the king of road performance, which is very hard to use on public roads. In fact some very high performance cars are not much fun at lower sane speeds, the magic happens at high speed. For me the Porsche Boxster is the best of both worlds. Maintaining a budget is also a worthy goal, see this way you take the extra money and buy a Ducati Panigali or an Aprilia RSV4 RR. Then you have something German and something Italian. Don’t want to be racist when it comes to transportation.

My son is about to turn 16, should I get him a BMW i8 or a Dodge Demon?

A2A. I’m sorry for all these other answers which don’t answer your question. I don’t believe that there will be “an inevitable lawsuit”, and I don’t believe that “teenage boys crash cars”. If just choosing between these two, I would definitely pick the BMW i8. I might be a little bit biased. I’ve done a decent amount of research into cars, although I am not a car fanatic. I know that the Dodge Demon has the best 0–60 accelerations out on the market, rivaling supercars such as the Porsche 918 spyder, which costs millions. However, from my understanding that’s all the Demon is really good at, 0–60 in a straight line. In that one metric, it blows the i8 (and all other cars) out of the water. I sometimes wish my i8 had a better (<3s) acceleration. However, in every other aspect, I would argue that the i8 is superior. The Dodge Challenger, of which the Demon is the highest trim level, is a car which starts at <$30k. You see a lot of them around. If you’re not a car guy, you pretty much cannot tell the difference between the base level Challenger and your $85k MSRP (but probably more since it’s limited production) Demon. The BMW i8 starts at $150k, and it looks like pretty much nothing else out on the road. It has doors which go up, and a hybrid powertrain which frequently gets me 40+mpg. I know fuel money probably is not of the essence to you, but still something to mention here. I won’t give too much more justification for choosing the BMW i8. If you are choosing between just these two cars, then for me it’s no question. However, I do think you should be open to other cars. Cars I would strongly consider are Tesla Model S, Porsche 718 or 911, Jaguar F-Type, used McLaren 570s, used Lamborghini Gallardo, used Ferrari 458. The possibilities are endless when your budget is high, and I recommend that you do thorough research. To be perfectly honest with you, I chose the BMW i8 because it is the cheapest car which has non-conventional doors. However, it’s “just” a BMW, and if you’re talking to someone who doesn’t know what cars look like, and you say you drive a “BMW i8”, you won’t get any special reaction. They will feign that they are impressed, because you drive a “BMW”, but in the Bay area, everyone can if they want to. I don’t insist on people googling “BMW i8”, I hold my cards close to the table, and surprise them when they see the car. That’s when their jaws drop.

What is the best kind of vehicle to be hit by?

If I was not in a car I would rather be hit by a low sport car like a Porsche 718 becuse I would just be on the hood of the car. If I was in a car crash I would want to be hit by a small car like a g-wiz of a smart because they are very small and practically inposible to destroy another car in a crash.

Which is a better choice for an all around sports car - Porsche Cayman 718 or Toyota Supra?

“Better” is hard to say. The maxed out Supra is less that a base Cayman. It’s faster 0 to 60 than the GTS, according to Car and Driver. Toyota claims it could do “7:40 to 7:50” on the Ring (it hasn’t posted a time that I’m aware of, but it did crash during testing). A Cayman GTS posted 7:46. It appears to be competitive with the GTS but priced less than the base. But…it has a LOT of BMW parts (which doesn’t bode well for durability) and it comes with a slushbox transmission. The Cayman gives you a choice of the best dual-clutch on the market or a delicious stick. Depends on what your goals are.

Which is a better choice, a sports car or a sports bike?

You really can’t compare both vehicle types. Usually you would go with the one that suits your needs the most. A sports bike is lighter and will accelerate faster than a sports car (there are exceptions though). A sports car is still a car so it’s heavier but offers so much more than any bike could ever dream of. It will also go around tight corners a lot (!) faster than any bike because of its 4 wheels. It will be immensely more practical than the bike and might even be a suitable daily driver, depending on the model. If you just want to go fast and don’t care about other aspects, just get yourself a sports bike as it is cheaper. You get less but you pay less. Maybe you want to prepare your friends and family that you might crash and die at some point. If you want something you can use for more than just “going fast” and you have the money, go with a nice sports car. Something like the Porsche 718 Cayman for example. It really is up to you. Personally, I wouldn’t touch a sports bike even if someone paid me to. I’m not that wealthy that I could buy a Porsche either so I will gladly stick to the sports car of the reasonable person: a hot hatchback. More practical, in the real world more fun, a lot cheaper and you won’t get yourself into trouble as easy as with a sports bike / sports car.

As a car enthusiast, what do you think of the new, sportier offerings from Toyota?

Still fake. Even the 86 is faking it. A brand should fine tune a sporty product to the point that modification is unnecessary. Toyota isn’t interest. They interest in money. All these 86, Supra, Gundam mod iM (in Japan), etc. are all gimmicks to raise awareness and make money. They are reliable? Yes, but why? Better materials? Better production line control? Better design? These are just marketing talks. Their products are all under powered. Of course they are reliable. They limit you from reaching the red line at best they can. Of course they are reliable. They use the same stuffs over and over for 10 years+ across many models as they can in Toyota and Lexus. They would be shame if those parts are not reliable with all the data they can get from mess production! They scare to produce new and they scare to push to the limit. I have driven the LFA when I worked at a Toyota dealership about 3 or 4 years ago. The first time I don’t hate driving a Toyota. It gives you the power, the handling, the soul, the mission and purpose! The aerodynamic suck the car inward if goes fast enough in a corner, just like a STI. Which other Toyota/Lexus can do this? 86? Any proper low rider can do that. MX-5, Mini, Impreza and many others are way better than 86. What so special about it? $26k for a cheap fake sport car? For what? Regular sedan transmission with paddle shift that can’t hold too much stress? How about an AMG GLA with a proper transmission and 4 cylinder twin-turbo doing 375 hp? Plus a PE system, a true dual pipe from manufacturer. What TRD does? $30k+ for a show, the RC would be a better show although it still a ripoff. The truth is, other brands strive to provide some GTs, sport sedans and sport cars at a competition level while maintaining reliability and offer a competitive rate. Look at Porsche 718 and AMG GLA and Evolution and Impreza and 370Z. These are the cars with romance on country side and a beast on track for fun. Are they less reliable? Yes if you push them all the time without proper maintenance. But proper maintenance is the same across the board. But Toyota stop owners from pushing their products with a computer that give you headache for down shifting and reaching red line. And they call it ‘safety.’ Toyota is not that safe as the general public thinks. This is just another marketing add on value. They advertise the canard diffuser on sedan like a Corolla saying it helps to stabilize the vehicle when passing a semi-truck. Is Toyota the only brand has canard diffuser? Obviously not. Crash results? Well, go check their real scores and compare them to other brands. Fuel economy is totally a joke. Toyota output lesser than competitors. Of course the fuel economy looks good. But is it? In mountain areas like San Francisco, Austin, etc. Toyota/Lexus need way more power than many others to maintain speed going uphill. It so bad that an uphill climb on I-10 can decrease the speed effectively from a 70 mph to 55 mph. Why? Because Toyota/Lexus cars have less power output and their cars heavier than many competitors. It was actually a surprise to me that Americans take the Supra so seriously. Supra is a GT. It is heavy. A FD3S stock to stock real racing can outrun a Supra at anytime. Because FD3S is sport car. Back in the 80s and 90s, you hear Evo, Impreza, Z, RX-7, DC2, DC5, FC2, R32, S2000 in Asia most of the time. Because Supra is a heavy RWD. This is why RC isn’t performing great. LC is not any better that GTR. 718 GT4 can be better value. STI can be more fun! Speaking of the RC, do Toyota really need to launch a new Supra? It just another marketing gimmick. Good call if you are thinking of the MR2, but Honda has NSX, so…
