The Proton X50 was one of the most highly anticipated cars in Malaysia of 2020 with overwhelming demand that led to long waiting periods. Now that supply issues have gotten better, the X50 is still one of Malaysia’s most in-demand SUVs of its class.

3 years after its launch, nothing is stopping the X50’s popularity with Proton announcing that 100,210 units have been sold nationwide. 2,021 units of the X50 were sold in October 2023 which cumulatively makes it the most popular SUV in the country with 26,981 units sold in the year so far.

Overall, the X50 is Proton’s second best-selling model of 2023 so far behind only the Proton Saga. However, the SUV is P1’s third best-selling model of October behind the Saga and Persona, the latter saw 20 units more being sold that month.

Still, the X50 managed to hold on to its position as the best-selling B-segment SUV in Malaysia in October. Just last week, Proton even launched a limited-run X50 R3 Edition which starts from RM 125,300.

The X50 is available with two turbocharged 1.5-litre 3-cylinder engines offered across 4 variants. The MPI unit produces 150 PS/226 Nm and is offered on all but the highest Flagship variant of the X50 which in turn uses a TGDI powerplant that makes 177 PS/255 Nm.
