In the realm of iconic Japanese automobiles, the Toyota Crown holds a special place, even for Malaysians. Some readers will remember the time where it served as cushy taxis before giving way to the Toyota Cressida, and its position as Toyota's flagship model back then was a precursor to today's Camry.
For a long while after that the Crown didn't go venture too much out of Japan, but this sixteenth-generation model changed things a bit; it returned to the United States after 50 years, and now, Malaysia β albeit as a parallel-import model.

This one is the 2022 Toyota Crown Crossover, the first of four bodystyles available for this generation of the Crown β alongside the Sedan, Estate, and Sport (SUV) β in RS Advanced guise, the highest available variant of the model in Japan, and going for RM 338,000 here.
Far from its taxi roots, the Crown Crossover is quite a feature-packed model these days, coming with an array of creature comforts (heated seats, anyone?), and the full-suite of Toyota's Safety Sense driver assist (ADAS) system.
In this RS Advanced guise, it comes with 21-inch diamond-cut wheels, quad-LED headlamps, 12.3-inch fully-digital instrument cluster, and a full-leather, two-tone interior to match its Precious Ray and Black dual-tone interior.

Most importantly it's the most powerful of the Crown Crossover range as well, with a 2.4-litre turbo-hybrid powertrain borrowed from the Lexus RX500h as its trump card under the hood. Combined figures were not given, but the Lexus does 371 PS and 550 Nm, so the Crown can't be too far.
Power is sent to all four wheels via an electric all-wheel drive system (E-Four Advanced AWD), and a 6-speed Direct Shift automatic transmission. Just for clarity though β this is a 'regular' series-parallel hybrid, and not a plug-in one (PHEV), so buyers need not er...plug-in the car every once in a while.
