Despite the price disparity between the Toyota Veloz (W151) and 2022 Perodua Alza (D27A), UMW Toyota Motor (UMWT) has seen "positive acceptance" for their model, with over 6,000 bookings collected in the four months since June 2022.

"Since the all-new Toyota Veloz was made available for bookings in June this year, the order-taking rate shows positive acceptance and we are committed to giving our best effort and going the extra mile to ensure delivery to SST exempted customers before March 2023.

As of now, UMW Toyota Motor has recorded over 6,000 bookings for the Toyota Veloz signalling increasing interest in a crossover SUV-look,” said President of UMW Toyota Motor, Ravindran K.

March 2023 refers to the deadline of which sales and services tax (SST) exempt prices for cars will end. Meaning, customers can enjoy SST-free car prices if they've booked their units before 30-June 2022 and register it before 31-March 2023.

Currently, the Toyota Veloz's SST-exempt price starts from RM 95,000. Prices with SST haven't been revealed at the time of writing.

With the Veloz's introduction, the Toyota Avanza bows out of Malaysia after 178,000 units sold since it was first introduced in 2004. The Veloz was launched here just moments ago, and though there's a circa RM 18k difference between it and the range-topping Alza, there's more to it than meets the eye.
