The new 2024 Mazda CX-5 facelift has just been launched in Malaysia. Five variants of the refreshed SUV are available, with prices ranging from RM 144,469.20 before topping out at RM 192,060.40, and as before remains locally-assembled (CKD) in Kulim, Kedah.

As is typical with such mid-life refreshes, there's a whole host of updates to its appearance, comfort features, as well as active safety.

Most importantly, here's the price list in full, before we go into what's new.

Overall, it's a slight increase in prices over the pre-facelift model, which retailed from RM 139,469 to RM 187,060.

Mazda CX-5 facelift - Exterior and interior

Most obvious is its new look. Sharper head- and tail-lamps shape the front, and the 17- and 19-inch wheels that are offered (variant dependent) also have been redesigned.

The exterior colour line-up of the Mazda CX-5 includes Jet Black, Snowflake White Pearl, Machine Gray, Deep Crystal Blue, Soul Red Crystal and newly added colours Polymetal Gray and Platinum Quartz, making a total of 7 colours available.

Stepping into the CX-5, the first thing that strikes customers is the new seats; they've been redesigned to reduce occupants' body sway, by way of an optimised new structure, and how the entire seat cushion is flexed when sat in.

The science of it pares down to how it holds your spine in an S-shaped curve, allowing for comfortable flexes in response to vibration transmitted from the pelvis to stabilise the occupants' heads. Normally this seems all a little too much – but as we've covered multiple times on this website, Mazda has a reputation for such fastidiousness.

Mazda CX-5 facelift - Features

Speaking of interior, the cabin has got its fair share of tech enhancements. Standard on the updated CX-5 are auto-folding side mirrors, a Qi wireless charger, wireless Apple CarPlay connectivity, 8-inch infotainment display, and interior LED lighting.

The 2.0-litre Mid variant now gets Mazda's Advanced Keyless Entry while the CX-5 2.0L High variants and above now come equipped with paddle shifters. The CX-5 2.5L variant and above also receives newly added front driver and passenger ventilation seats.

Further to that, the to-spec 2.5T AWD variant now comes with Mi-Drive, which offers three driving modes, (Normal, Sport and Off-Road). The Off-Road mode optimises the following system control characteristics:

• All Wheel Drive for high traction performance
• Smooth traction control
• Automatic Transmission Control for smooth and continuous torque
• The engine idling speed that maximises climbing capability

Mazda CX-5 facelift - Safety

The new CX-5 2.0L High variants and above are now equipped with new addition of i-Activsense Advanced Driver Assist Safety features, which include Smart Brake Support (SBS), Mazda Radar Cruise Control (MRCC, with Stop & Go) and Cruising & Traffic Support (CTS).

2024 Mazda CX-5 facelift - Performance

Under the skin, the CX-5 gains some improvements in the suspension department too. Increased rigidity of the laterla frame near the car's body centre promises better vibration suppression and vehicle manoeuvrability.

Improved springs and dampers are part of the package too, helping to achieve better ride comfort by way of mitigating occupants' heads pitching forward when going over bumps in the road.

2024 Mazda CX-5 facelift - Warranty and aftersales

All Mazda vehicles registered come with a 5-year manufacturer warranty + 5 years free maintenance (except Mazda BT-50) including labour, parts and lubricants. Both manufacturer's warranty and free maintenance have a coverage period of five years and a mileage limit of 100,000 km, whichever comes first.
