Nearly a month after making its global debut in Indonesia, PT Toyota-Astra Motor (TAM) has just announced the official prices of the DNGA-based 2023 Toyota Yaris Cross in Indonesia.

With 6 variants – 4 petrol and 2 hybrid choices, prices for the Indo-assembled Yaris Cross in the archipelago are as follows:

• Yaris Cross 1.5 G M/T – IDR 351 million (~RM 109k)
• Yaris Cross 1.5 G CVT – IDR 364 million (~RM 113k)
• Yaris Cross 1.5 S CVT – IDR 407.7 million (~RM 127k)
• Yaris Cross 1.5 S CVT GR Sport – IDR 417 million (~RM 130k)
• Yaris Cross Hybrid 1.5 S CVT – IDR 440.6 million (~RM 137k)
• Yaris Cross Hybrid 1.5 S CVT GR Sport – IDR 449.95 million (~RM 140k)

By comparison, the Honda HR-V is priced between IDR 375.9 million to IDR 416.1 million (~RM 117k-129k) and is available with a naturally-aspirated or turbocharged 1.5-litre engine across 3 variants.

The Yaris Cross is completely different from the European and Japanese market TNGA-based Yaris Cross despite sharing the same name. The Daihatsu-developed model is the fifth Toyota model overseas to be built on the DNGA platform after the Raize, Veloz/Avanza, Agya/Wigo, and Vios.

The DNGA-based Yaris Cross is also expected to be exported to developing markets overseas in Asia and Latin America from Indonesia in the future.

The naturally-aspirated 1.5-litre 2NR-VE Dual-VVTi 4-cylinder engine makes 106 PS and 138 Nm and is paired with either a 5-speed manual transmission or a CVT automatic.

Meanwhile, the hybrid powertrain used is the 2NR-VEX which pairs a naturally-aspirated 1.5-litre unit (91 PS/121 Nm) with an electric motor (80 PS/141 Nm). The CVT transmission combines seamlessly with EV Mode via the Toyota Hybrid System (THS) to optimize power distribution without compromising on performance.

Standard on all variants of the Indo-spec Yaris Cross are LED headlamps with DRL and LED rear combination lamps. The higher S variants come with 18-inch alloy wheels (17-inch on the G variants), automatic headlamps, and a power tailgate with a kick sensor.

The GR Sport variants of both the hybrid and petrol models come with a panoramic glass roof with sunshade as standard.

Convenience features that are listed on the Indo-spec Yaris Cross include 10.1-inch infotainment display with “wireless smartphone connectivity”, a 7-inch digital TFT instrument panel, a wireless charger, automatic A/C, along with multicolour ambient lighting in the console box and front door trim.

Standard safety features for the Yaris Cross in Indonesia include EPB with auto brake hold, 6 airbags, VSC, ABS, RCTA, and blind-spot monitors. Toyota Safety Sense ADAS though is only offered on the S variants which include:

• Adaptive cruise control (ACC)
• Pre-collision warning and braking
• Automatic High Beam (AHB)
• Lane departure warning (LDW)
• Lane departure prevention (LDP)
• Lane-keeping control (LKC)

Now that the Yaris Cross’ prices are out in Indonesia, it gives us a glimpse of how much the SUV will cost if it makes it into Malaysia. Speaking of which, the DNGA Yaris Cross also previews what to expect in the upcoming Perodua D66B SUV. The Ativa’s bigger brother is currently in development but it is rumoured to be launched within the next two years.
