In the middle of last month, Mazda revealed the new 2022 Mazda CX-5 facelift with a sharper design and a brand-new exterior colour called Zircon Sand. Though Malaysians will have to wait until 2022 or later for its arrival, the Japanese could get a chance to see one up close this month.
Granted, the public preview is limited to a few members who sign up for Mazda’s new free membership service, Club Mazda. The lucky few will be selected through a raffle, so these previews have the same exclusivity as copping a pair of Yeezys.
On Mazda’s website, only the horizontally-spaced LED headlights are shown in the teaser. According to the disclaimer, the image is based on an “overseas model” but it is very likely that the Japanese-spec CX-5 facelift will be more or less similar to the ones revealed last month.
The special preview will be held at three different cities – Yokohama (30- to 31st Oct), Hiroshima (6-to 7-Nov), and Osaka (13- to 14-Nov). In each city, the selected members can view the CX-5 facelift and even step inside them. However, the units will only be used for display as they are prototypes.
The CX-5 facelift is expected to be launched in Japan by the end of 2021.
The CX-5 facelift is said to have improved suspension and features that help to elevate the CX-5’s already excellent comfort levels.
The CX-5 facelift is also likely retaining the same powertrains as the pre-facelift which includes:
Naturally-aspirated 2.0-litre petrol (162 PS/213 Nm)
Naturally-aspirated 2.5-litre petrol (192 PS/258 Nm)
Turbocharged 2.5-litre petrol (230 PS/420 Nm)
2.2-litre turbodiesel (173 PS/420 Nm)
Those engines will be available depending on the market. Currently, the Japanese-spec pre-facelift CX-5 offers all four engines across 19 variants. All four engines are also offered in Malaysia on the pre-facelift across 5 variants but we will have to wait much longer for the arrival of the facelift.
