Following the introduction of the 2020 BMW X1 facelift – in sDrive20i M Sport guise – earlier this year, BMW Malaysia has expanded the BMW X1 lineup with the sDrive18i.

It is locally assembled (CKD) from the Kulim plant, priced at RM 208,368 (OTR without insurance and SST). As there are no plans to locally assemble the all-new BMW 1 Series, the X1 serves as the new entry point for BMW.

Powertrain

The 1.5-litre 3-cylinder turbocharged engine makes 140 PS and 220 Nm of torque, mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission that spins the front wheels.

BMW claims a 0-100 km/h time of 9.6 seconds and a top speed of 201 km/h. More impressively, claimed fuel consumption figure is 6.3-litre/100 km.

Exterior

It has LED headlights (non-adaptive units), front LED fog lights, satin-finish aluminium roof rails and exterior trim, with new 17-inch light alloy wheels in V-spoke style 560. 

There are 4 colours available to choose from, which are Alpine White, Mediterranean Blue, Black Sapphire, and Mineral Grey.

Interior

The BMW X1 features interior trim finishers in black high-gloss and highlight trim finishers in Pearl Chrome, along with Leather Dakota upholster. There’s an 8.8-inch infotainment display that can be operated via the iDrive controller, by touch, and even voice control.

Boot capacity of the 2020 BMW X1 sDrive18i can be increased from 505 litres to 1,550 litres, when the rear seats are folded.

And it has automatic tailgate operation with contactless opening and closing functions via Comfort Access.

Safety

Driving assistance comes in the form of BMW Personal CoPilot. The system features Frontal Collision Warning with braking intervention (AEB), High-beam Assistant, Lane Departure Warning as well as speed limit info. No adaptive cruise control here.

The 2020 BMW X1 sDrive18i will be available at all authorised BMW dealerships nationwide from 24th July 2020. Customers can also book the new SAV on BMW Malaysia's website at RM1,000.
