2023 Toyota Hilux GR Sport updated with more power in Malaysia; 224 PS/550 Nm, burlier than Triton & Ranger 01

The 2023 Toyota Hilux GR Sport was updated for the Malaysian market earlier today, and the highlight of that is in the form of more power.

224 PS and 550 Nm comes from the 1GD-FTV 2.8-litre turbodiesel mill now, a 20 PS and 50 Nm bump from its earlier form. Note that the Hilux Rogue, which it shares an engine with, still soldiers on with 204 PS and 500 Nm.

Beyond the power increase, Hilux GR Sport and Rogue variants now get tailgate assist as standard; this is in addition to RFID tags made standard fitment on all Hilux, Fortuner, and Innova variants.

This update puts the Hilux GR Sport ahead of the Mitsubishi Triton (181 PS/430 Nm), and Ford Ranger Wildtrak's 210 PS / 500 Nm.

This engine is paired to a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission, and comes equipped with the A-TRC active traction control system, alongside an automatic limited-slip differential, and rear differential lock. The Hilux GR Sport adds on improved suspension.

Kit count remains the same (save for GR-exclusive exterior and interior trimmings); and the locally-assembled (CKD Shah Alam) Hilux GR Sport still retails from RM 169,080. The rest of the Hilux range's prices are unchanged too.
