An all-new generation of the Toyota Camry could be off the cards for now, as the current XV70 generation is expected to soldier on for longer after receiving updates.
Japanese website Mag-X recently reported that the lifespan of the current-generation Camry XV70 will be extended after receiving a Major Minor Change, or MMC in short.
MMC updates can include very significant changes in interior and exterior design, more so than the usual facelift - as well as improvements to powertrain and safety equipment.
Prototypes recently spied testing further suggest that the upcoming Camry could be a continuation of the existing 10th-generation (XV70).
The current-generation XV70 Camry made its debut in July 2017, marking almost 6 years of production. The previous two Camry generations – the XV40 and XV50 – had a lifespan of 7- and 6 years respectively.
Closer to home, the XV70 Camry was first launched here in 2019, featuring a 184 PS / 235 Nm 2.5-litre four-cylinder mated to a six-speed automatic, prices started at RM 189k.
The facelift joined in 2022, sporting the newer 209 PS / 253 Nm 2.5-litre Dynamic Force engine paired with a new 8-speed automatic transmission. Prices, however, saw a sizeable jump to RM 219k.
