When it comes to SUVs, the Proton X50 has always been the preferred choice for Malaysians ever since its mega-anticipated launch back in 2020. However, in July 2023, its crown was snatched by the Perodua Ativa.

According to Proton’s recent press release on July sales, the X50 ceded leadership of the overall SUV market though it remains the sales leader for B-segment SUVs. That month saw 2,630 units of the X50 sold nationwide.

Even though Perodua never reveals the sales data of specific models, internal sources told WapCar that the Perodua Ativa sold slightly below 3,000 units in July 2023. It’s quite an achievement then for the smallest Malaysian SUV which finally took over the title of best-selling SUV in the monthly sales chart.

Still, the Proton X50 is Malaysia’s best-selling SUV in 2023 so far with a total of 20,192 units sold cumulatively in the first 7 months of the year.
