Befitting its sporty badge, Toyota Thailand has now introduced a more powerful version of the 2023 Toyota Fortuner GR Sport.

Improving on the GR Sport model first introduced in 2021 – the third GR Sport model introduced in Thailand – the range-topping 2023 Fortuner GR Sport now offers more power from its 2.8-litre turbodiesel engine, and several equipment upgrades.

Starting with the highlights, the (1GD-FTV) 2.8-litre turbodiesel four-cylinder now produces 224 PS, up 20 PS from before, and 550 Nm of torque (up 50 Nm), courtesy of a new engine tune. The engine is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission.

As before, the Fortuner GR Sport also features a unique suspension set-up, which is specially tuned for sharper handling, without sacrificing comfort.

On the inside, the Fortuner GR Sport also gets a new 9-inch touch screen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility.

Styling wise, it's the same as before with no change to the overall exterior and interior visual enhancements, which comprised a unique body kit, larger 20-inch alloy wheels as well as GR emblems on the steering wheel, carpet mats, start/stop button, and front seats in the original model. Aluminium pedals further add to the Fortuner GR Sport’s overall sportier ambience.

The additional power and equipment does come with a small price bump, now priced at THB 1,939,000 (~RM 255k), up from THB 1,879,000 (~RM 240k) of the 2021 model. The optional Emotional Red/Black Roof and Platinum White Pearl/Black Roof colour combos add another THB 20,000 (~RM 2,635).

Closer to home, Malaysia has yet to receive the GR Sport variant of the Fortuner. For now, the Toyota Fortuner is offered in 3 variants - the (RM 190k) 2.4L AT 4WD, (RM 192k) 2.7L SRZ AT 4WD, and range-topping (RM 231k) Fortuner 2.8 VRZ AT 4WD.
