To say it was a success for Toyota’s sales department during the recently held Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show or GIIAS 2023 event would be an understatement. PT Toyota Astra Motor (TAM), the holders of the brand across the Straits of Malacca, claims to have collected 5,796 bookings.
However, the highlight would have to be that over 80 percent of Toyota Yaris Cross and Kijang Innova Zenix buyers opted for the hybrid variants.
GIIAS 2023 was held from 10-20 August 2023 and many of Toyotas electrified models were the centre of attention.

“It turned out that the results exceeded our expectations and contributed greatly to sales, which proves that this vehicle is increasingly known and in demand by the public,” said Henry Tanoto, vice president of PT TAM.
The figures don’t lie. Of all the models sold during the show, the family-friendly Avanza and Veloz scored the most bookings at 1,213 units, or 20.9 percent of all Toyotas sold during the show.
Second place went to the aforementioned Kijang Innova Zenix with 823 units, or 14.2 percent of sales. Again, the hybrid variant accounted for over 80 percent with 658 buyers opting for the electrified model.
Narrowly missing out on second was the Calya. The Low Cost Green Car model contributed 14.1 percent of bookings, or 816 units. Rounding up the top 4 was the compact Agya hatchback with 648 units, or 11.2 percent of bookings.
Proving that luxury will always be in demand, the Alphard contributed 382 units, or 6.6 percent of bookings. Unsurprisingly, the 305 of those Alphards were the hybrid variant, meaning that 79 percent of orders for the luxury MPV were for the hybrid as well.
Not one to miss out on the show, the Yaris Cross Hybrid brought in 222 bookings to see the hybrid variant make up over 80 percent.

Shoring up the sales figures from the bottom of the charts were 5 units of the bZ4X and 3 units of the RAV4 PHEV GR Sport.
All in, that meant 1,255 units, or 22 percent, of Toyotas sold during GIIAS 2023 were powered by some form of electrification.

That represents a significant increase of over 10-fold compared to the sales of electrified models during last year’s GIIAS.
“Not only are vehicles safer and more comfortable, but also environmentally friendly according to the vision of a sustainable future and providing complete supporting services and infrastructure, such as free BEV and PHEV battery charging facilities which already exist in 30 Toyota outlets and will continue to grow,” said Anton Jimmi Suwandy, marketing director of PT TAM.
