Looking to defend its title, Toyota Gazoo Racing (TGR) will be entering the 2024 Dakar Rally and the World Rally-Raid Championship (W2RC) in an updated version of the new GR DKR Hilux EVO T1U.
The team will be fielding its largest entry yet in the 2024 Dakar with 5 crews including two rookie drivers. Led by seasoned South African veteran, Giniel de Villiers, the other 4 drivers comprised younger talents – Lucas Moraes (Brazil), Seth Quintero (US), Saood Variawa (South Africa), and Guy Botterill (South Africa).

2023 winner, Nasser Al-Attiyah left TGR to race for Prodrive in 2024. The Qatari will be driving the Prodrive Hunter T1+ prototype rally car alongside his long-time co-driver Mathieu Baumel in the 46th Dakar Rally and the W2RC.
Back to the rally-ready Hilux which is 100 mm wider than its predecessor and received several refinements. These include an adjusted suspension, a relocated air conditioning unit to improve efficiency, and the fitment of a new cooling package.
Under the hood is a twin-turbocharged 3.5-litre V35A petrol V6 engine lifted from the Land Cruiser 300 Series. With a max power output of 358 PS and 620 Nm, the rally monster is paired with a 6-speed sequential shift manual transmission sending power to all 4 wheels.
Partnering with Spanish oil giant, Repsol, the 2024 Hilux rally car is powered by fuels with 70% renewable content, using advanced biofuels that have 70% less carbon footprint than conventional petrol.
The special fuel is made from waste material like used cooking oil. Called Repsol Renewable Fuel 70R+, the blend was formulated exclusively for TGR in accordance with the FIA’s regulations.

The 2024 Dakar Rally will start on 5 January with a short prologue near the Saudi Arabian city of Alula. Six stages will follow around Saudi Arabia, concluding in the coastal city of Yanbu on 19 January.
