Nearly 3 months ago back in July, we covered a story where one of our readers spotted the MG HS SUV and the ZS EV in front of Berjaya Times Square for what appeared to be a public viewing of the former British Chinese brand’s expected Malaysian line-up.

Things have been pretty quiet from MG and no further details have been mentioned until today. This time, one of our very own writers spotted a red MG HS somewhere near Shah Alam.

It’s wearing trade plates and appears to be sporting a similar red paint job as the one spotted at Berjaya Times Square and at a Road Transport Department (JPJ) office for approval review.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed between Berjaya and SAIC Motor Passenger Vehicle Co. (SMPV), the owner of MG, back in January 2019. Since then, Berjaya hasn’t made any official announcements yet.

When it comes to Malaysia, the MG HS is set to fight against the Proton X70, Mazda CX-5, and Honda CR-V in the hotly contested C-segment SUV category.

Powering the HS is a 1.5-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder direct-injection petrol engine (162 PS/250 Nm) that is hooked up to a 7-speed DCT gearbox.

It could come equipped with a full suite of ADAS which includes ACC, LDW, LDP, LKA, BSD, RCTA, and Traffic Jam Assist.

One thing we're uncertain is whether this HS is assembled in Berjaya-Sime Darby's Inokom plant in Kulim or imported from Thailand. Priced right, this could give the Proton X70 a run for its money but do you think the HS will be a success here?
