While the Toyota Vios entered its newest generation, the AC100, its hatchback twin, the Yaris is still soldiering on with the older platform. The XP150 Yaris has gotten an extensive third facelift which made its debut in Thailand, but some markets are still offering the outgoing second facelift like Malaysia.

One market that decided to give up on the XP150 Yaris though is the Philippines with Auto Industriya reporting that the hatchback has been quietly dropped from Toyota Motor Philippines’ (TMP) website. A TMP executive confirmed with the Filipino outlet that the Yaris is no longer sold at its dealerships nationwide.

With the Yaris discontinued, the Axia’s twin, Wigo is the sole Toyota hatchback available in the island archipelago. The Yaris name, however, still exists albeit as the Yaris Cross which sits on the same DNGA platform as the AC100 Vios.

It is also worth noting that the all-new Vios has not yet been launched in the Philippines with the last-gen XP150 Vios still being offered there. The Vios is among the most popular cars in the country and the Yaris Cross has been well received since its Filipino introduction in August.

Filipino buyers largely favour high-riding SUVs and crossovers over hatchbacks so the Yaris wasn’t a huge volume seller for Toyota which is the country’s best-selling car brand. It is likely due to this poor demand that saw TMP pulling out the model entirely.

Perhaps its all-new successor could make a return to the Filipino market but it won’t be launched so soon. It is rumoured that the next-gen Yaris could be sitting on the DNGA platform and it could also be the basis for the next-generation Perodua Myvi.

In Malaysia, the current-gen XP150 Yaris is locally assembled (CKD) and was given a second update this year back in August with two variants offered:

  • Yaris 1.5 E – RM 88,000
  • Yaris 1.5 G – RM 91,600
