Renault Megane Exterior

The Renault Megane boasts a similarly distinctive front end as the sportier R.S performance variant with few subtle and understated differences. It does away with the R.S exclusive chequered flag style fog lamps and the Formula One inspired front blade while sporting the same instantly recognizable LED headlight with C-shaped 3D Edge daytime running light.

The GT line also feature gloss black front mesh grille, sporty front and rear bumpers, and a rear silver diffuser with dual trapezoidal chrome exhaust exits. It rides on a rather conservatively sized 17-inch Sebring alloy wheels in gun metal grey.

The Renault Megane is positioned above the Renault Clio in Renault’s vehicle line up. Available only in the more practical 5-door layout, the GT’s overall dimension is comparable to that of the similarly sized Volvo V40 T4, only marginally smaller in terms of overall dimension.

The column mounted paddle shifters, driving pedals and the GT Line embossed door sills are made out of aluminium for that added sporty touch. The dashboard and door panels are finished in black soft touch material accented with satin chrome trims. 

A 7-inch touch screen infotainment system sits on top of an array of capacitive touch control and narrow buttons that can be a touch fiddly to operate. Interior space is adequate for both front and rear occupants with decent head and knee room. The 434 litre available boot space is one of the largest in the segment.

The available onboard Multi-Sense system configures your vehicle (engine response, gear changes, variation in steering wheel weight, engine sound, 4CONTROL responsiveness) and the onboard ambient lighting including colours of the instrument panel according to the selected drive mode (Comfort, Neutral, Sport, Personal, R.S mode). Standard safety features include 6 airbags, reversing camera with 4 rear parking sensor, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), traction control, ABS with EBD and EBA, Hill Start Assist (HSA).

Renault Megane Powertrain Performance

While the engine feels effortless and offers plenty of torque, it does not necessarily enjoy hanging out at the higher rev range. Stray too close to the limiter and the noise can get a tad too rough for comfort. The engine is mated to a 7-speed Efficient Dual Clutch (EDC) transmission, featuring custom technologies developed by Renault Sport such as Launch Control and Multi Change-Down function.

Multi Change Down function offers accelerated multi-downshifts when demanded. In Sport Mode, the EDC gear box ratios are reduced and the 4CONTROL system adapts accordingly, generating improved throttle and transmission response.

Renault Megane Ride Comfort

Featuring pseudo-MacPherson strut with lower triangle for both the front and back, the ride though on the slightly firmer side, is composed and sophisticated when dealing with road imperfections. Combined with the 4CONTROL rear-wheel steer system, the car feels half its size negotiating tight and narrow corners. And while it may not be as natural feeling like other hot hatches like the nimble Ford Focus ST, it just takes time getting used to it.
