Indonesia’s de facto national car, the Toyota Innova has been crowned the country’s best-selling car of 2023 with 66,459 units sold according to Gaikindo’s sales report. This is followed by the Toyota Avanza (62,275 units) and the Honda Brio (62,008 units). There is a disclaimer for the Innova’s sales figures though as it combined the numbers of both the outgoing rear-wheel drive (RWD) Innova which is only available with a diesel powerplant, and its front-wheel drive (FWD) successor. UMW Toyota Motor will be launching the all-new 2023 Toyota Innova Zenix later tonight. A countdown timer to its online launch and a registration of interest page is already up on its website. Usually, the introduction of a new generation model would also mean the discontinuation / replacement of the previous generation model. Electrified cars in Indonesia are not that quite in demand but data has shown that sales are increasing though hybrid vehicles are a more favourable choice over electric vehicles (EVs) among buyers. Just like Malaysia, Indonesia’s EV infrastructure is more concentrated in urban areas so individual EV model sales rarely breach 1,000 units a month. According to Gaikindo, Indonesia’s best-selling EV in May is the Ioniq 5 which saw 918 units sold and is followed by the Wuling Air with 455 units sold

Maruti Suzuki is India’s number one carmaker and in some ways, it is similar to our very own Perodua. However, aside from producing Suzuki models, it has a partnership with Toyota in the subcontinent. This resulted in some Suzuki models sold in India (and South Africa) being offered with a Toyota badge but this Innova Zenix marks the first time a Toyota model is given the Suzuki rebadge in India. Toyota models have been rebadged as Suzuki before outside of India. Europe has the likes of the RAV4

Ever since Toyota debuted the first-generation Toyota Innova back in 2004, the model was locally-assembled (CKD) at the ASSB plant in Shah Alam. However, upon the introduction of the all-new TNGA-C-based 2023 Toyota Innova Zenix, data from Indonesia's automotive industry association GAIKINDO revealed that Toyota Indonesia has exported roughly 200 units of the model to Malaysia back in April, including several units of a curiously-named "H" variant. Further cementing that notion is a set of spysh
