The Toyota Hilux has just about edged the Isuzu D-Max in month of June 2023, to become the best-selling pickup in in the Kingdom of trucks, Thailand.
For the first month this year, the Hilux has managed to outsell the D-Max selling a total of 9,242 units, versus the D-Max’s 9,093 units, as reported by Thai automotive media, Headlight Mag.
However, the Isuzu D-Max continues to lead overall in 2023, with a cumulative sales of 66,680 units from January to June this year, versus the Hilux’s 58,782 units within the same period.
Still, both the D-Max and Hilux continue to dominate the pick-up truck market in the Kingdom, making up nearly 84 percent of all pickup sales in the first six months of 2023. This figure has pretty much been consistent since March 2023.
The 2023 Ford Ranger finishes in third, keeping to its consistent performance of over 2,000 units per month. However, June has been the second lowest month of sales for the Ranger – with 2,034 units sold in total.
Having seen pretty lacklustre sales since it’s high of 1,806 units in March 2023, sales of the Mitsubishi Triton somewhat recovered in June in Thailand, with 1,350 units sold, it’s second-best month in 2023.
Although recent numbers are still less than the consistent circa 2,000 units sales per month the Triton would achieve in 2022; the reason though is likely because an all-new Triton – previewed by the XRT concept - which is expected to arrive later this year.
The Nissan Navara finishes just behind the Triton with 245 units sold in June 2023. Rounding off the list are the Mazda BT-50 and MG Extender which both track double-digit sales with 78 and 80 units respectively.
The BT-50 (with cumulative 552 units) has sold just 1 unit more than the relatively new MG in the first 6 months of 2023 in Thailand.
Overall sales of pick-up trucks remained steady in June 2023, with over 22k units sold; the figures are close to May’s performance but pale in comparison to the strongest month in March 2023, with over 29k units sold.
Arvind can't remember a time when he didn't wheel around a HotWheels car. This love evolved into an interest in Tamiya and RC cars and finally the real deal 1:1 scale stuff. Passion finally lead to formal training in Mechanical Engineering. Instead of the bigger picture, he obsesses with the final drive ratio and spring rates of cars and spends the weekends wondering why a Perodua Myvi is so fast.
