While the Mercedes-Benz G-Class has been on sale in Malaysia for years, it has only ever been offered in its most sporty G 63 form. But now Mercedes-Benz Malaysia (MBM) is adding a new engine to the line-up in the form of the Mercedes-Benz G350d. The SUV retails at RM 999,888 and is fully imported (CBU) from Austria.

The goal of the new update for the G-Class is to allow car buyers the option to choose between the ultimate sporty Mercedes-AMG G 63 and a smaller more fuel-conscious option. The OM 656 diesel engine in the new G350d is said to be the smoothest and most fuel-efficient engine in Mercedes’ arsenal.

With 286 PS and 600 Nm on tap, the 3.0-litre dual-turbo diesel engine is mated to a 9G-Tronic transmission allowing the G-Class to make the century sprint in 7.4 seconds and has a top speed of 199 km/h.

The engine’s combined fuel consumption is rated at 8.9 – 8.7-litre/100 km, this is much lower than the G 63’s recorded 13.3 – 13.1-litre/100 km.

Other upgrades include new additions to the Driving Assistance Package like Active Distance Assist Distronic and Blind Spot Assist.

Active Distance Assist Distronic works similarly to Adaptive Cruise Control with the additional function that allows the SUV to maintain a pre-set distance away from the vehicle ahead. Though the system works up to 200 km/h, this would prove especially helpful in congested situations.

The G350d is equipped with the AMG Night Package that features 20-inch AMG multi-spoke light-alloy wheels paired with darkened indicators, reverse lamps and headlamps. The SUV also gets the AMG Night Package signature radiator grille louvres and spare wheel ring.

MBM has also thrown in the Stainless Steel Package that includes steel plate inserts on the running sideboards, the spare wheel cover with 3D Mercedes star painted in obsidian black, door sills, load sill guards and the exterior protective strip.

On the inside, the G350d gets the Exclusive interior that features leather-covered instrument panel and black Dinamica microfibre lined ceiling.
