The Honda City is leading in sales in Thailand’s B-segment sedan market. Given its success, surely the City Hatchback would replicate its sedan twin by grabbing the title of its respective segment, right? Well, not quite because the Toyota Yaris is blocking the City Hatchback’s chances of winning by a mile.
Or two as the Toyota Yaris sold 4,755 units in the Kingdom in January and February 2022 which is nearly twice as many Honda City Hatchbacks (2,578 units) that were sold in the same period according to data compiled by Autolife Thailand.
The Yaris accounts for 34.9 percent market share in the B-segment hatchback sales for the first two months of the year. A total of 13,635 units of the hatchbacks were sold which is slightly less than sedans (17,547 units).
Completing the podium at third place is the Suzuki Swift which saw 1,386 units sold in the country.
Surprisingly, the discontinued Honda Jazz manages to perform well in Thailand as it racked up 1,211 units in the first two months of the year. Fourth place for a model that is seemingly dead in the region is mighty impressive.
Meanwhile, the MG 3 is placed last in sales with only 101 units sold. MG need not worry though as the brand has other newer models that help to bring some much-needed recognition in the Kingdom such as the refreshed MG HS and the MG ZS EV.
