Proton Saga has overtaken Perodua Myvi as Malaysia's best-selling car!

Despite the movement control order’s partial lift, Proton managed to sell 5,676 cars in the month of May 2020. This represents 23.3 percent market share of the month and an improvement of 73.2 percent compared to March and April.

The number of cars Proton sold in May might be a huge difference (46.5 percent to be exact) compared to the number of cars sold in 2019 of the same month, Proton is remaining positive.

The company believes this is marks the upward sales trend of the automotive industry in the remainder of 2020.

Year-To-Date (YTD) Proton’s volume has reduced by 23.3 percent for the first five months of the year, while Total-Industry-Volume (TIV) is estimated to have shrunk by 48.7 percent over the same time period.

In terms of market positioning and market share, Proton remains as the second most popular car brand in Malaysia with a YTD market share of 21.1 percent, which is in-line with targets set for the year.

Four models contributed to Proton’s improving sales in May. The new CKD 2020 Proton X70, as expected, retained its position as the best-selling C-segment SUV in Malaysia for, not only May but cumulatively for the year 2020.

The 2019 Proton Saga contributed the most to the number as it even outsold the Perodua Bezza for May. Proton claims that this is the first time the Saga outsold even the long-time best seller Perodua Myvi to become the best-selling model in Malaysia.

Other than that, the Proton Exora and the Proton Persona also contributed to Proton’s success in May.
