The new 2020 Toyota Corolla Cross launch in Bangkok got the WapCar office buzzing with excitement. Now, it seems that the next destination for Toyota’s newest crossover is Indonesia!

According to Oto Driver, PT Toyota Astra Motor, Toyota’s Indonesian distributor, is keen on bringing the Corolla Cross over to Indonesia sometime later this year.

No further details on which model will be brought over to Indonesia yet. In Thailand, the Corolla Cross is available with 2 engine options. One is a 1.8-litre petrol-powered 2ZR-FBE similar in the C-HR which produces 140 PS and 175 Nm.

The other is a hybrid 1.8-litre 2ZR-FXE that makes 98 PS and 142 Nm with an additional 72 PS and 163 Nm of torque from the electric motor. Both engines are mated to a CVT gearbox.

The hybrid engine is the top-of-the-line variant in Thailand. We have speculated before that this could be Toyota’s first hybrid model to be assembled in Malaysia. With both our neighbours from the north and south getting the Corolla Cross, will Malaysia be next?
