- Honda C-RV: 522 litre of boot space
- Mazda CX-5: 442 litre of boot space
- Toyota RAV4: 580 litre of boot space (!)
The all-new 2020 Toyota RAV4 is due to be launched later this year, but when you think of C-segment SUV in Malaysia, the name Honda CR-V is no stranger to the list. Strong brand image, rugged looks and proven reliability, the C-RV is a favorite among those looking for 5-seater SUV in the market.
For those looking for something suaver, you can’t go wrong with the Mazda CX-5. With its smooth and flowy design, echoing their signature KODO design language, the C-X5 is for those that want space and practicality – yet an SUV that is thrilling to drive every day.
Then we have the upcoming Toyota RAV4 The last time UMW Toyota Motor brought in the RAV4 was in 2006, but it wasn’t doing so well due to the hefty price tag (RM 203,400 to be exact), and the consumer still favouring sedans over SUV. Now with the booming SUV market, Toyota is set to rejoin the party with the all-new RAV4.
If you notice, the Toyota RAV4 has the most amount of boot space, but wait till you see the overall space with the back seat folded down in our infographic below:
Not only you get 580 litre of space with all the seats up, but you'll also gain a whopping 1,690 litre when the back seat is folded down. This is one of the best, if not class-leading in the segment.
Surprisingly, the CX-5 has even more space when the back seat is down at 1,342 litre as compared to the CR-V’s 1,084 litre, despite being the shortest SUV with the smallest boot space of 442 litre in the fight. Mazda has done something right about the packaging, then.
Dimension wise, the Toyota RAV4 is clearly the bigger SUV as compared to the Honda C-RV and Mazda CX-5.
Looks like the Toyota RAV4 will be an interesting new alternative to the segment. Simply put, if all you care about is space, the RAV4 offers you exactly just that. If design and style are more to your liking, the CX-5 suits you better. Finally, if you are looking for somewhere in between these two cars, the Honda CR-V does it all.
