Ride comfort is one of the most important aspect to consider when buying an SUV. So let’s dive into a comparison of ride comfort between the Proton X70, Honda CR-V, and Mazda CX-5.
All three cars have the same suspension setup, with MacPherson struts at the front and multi-link at the rear.

Starting with the Mazda CX-5, ride is on the firm side as with most Mazdas. It’s not crashy by any means, but you’ll notice more disturbances being transmitted into the cabin. But the seat sculpture is ideal for a relaxed seating position on long-distance journeys.
In terms of cabin noise level, the use of generous sound insulation materials, thick door panels and double-glazed window glass on all four windows give it a very well-insulated cabin. The sound level meter recorded an average of 68 dB.
Honda CR-V 1.5 TC-P
Moving on to the Honda CR-V, the suspension is on the softer side and soaks up road imperfections well. But at higher speeds, the ride quality deteriorates as the suspension struggles to cope with undulations.
While the Mazda CX-5 offers better back and side bolsters support, the front seats in the CR-V provide decent lower thigh support.
Cabin noise level in the Honda CR-V is about average and is the noisiest here. At 110 km/h, the sound level meter recorded an average of 70 dB.
Proton X70 Premium
The X70 has the best-in-class ride comfort despite riding on identical tyre size to the CX-5, measuring 225/55 R19. Only when going over abnormally large potholes will you feel a jolt from the suspension. Seats provide decent lumbar and side support.
It also has the quietest cabin in the segment. At 110 km/h, the sound meter recorded an average of 67 dB which is equivalent to the noise levels of having a normal conversation in an office.
